It's school time again, and Kyon is heading for class. Little does he know what is expecting him today. It is another day with Haruhi Suzumiya, chockful with highway robbery, Mikuru's boobs, crazy missions, and random philosophy babble.

What to blog?
So, I decided to go with "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya." I'm not entirely sure it is bloggable, but it certainly is a riot. As you can see below, I posted the screenshots for episodes 1 + 2, the reviews will follow. Thanks to my master programmer, the 100 pictures per episode limit was lifted, and you can expect fairly elaborate episode walk-throughs from now on. I already see myself frantically hitting the P key in BS player.
On another note, I might pick up Fate Stay Night. Sounds funny, but it has grown on me. In contrast, none of the new shows (with the exception of HaruSuzu) does this for me. Soul Link, Kiba and Utawarerumono show some promise but then feel so predictable. Simoun so far is just too much fanservice, even by my fairly liberal (I believe) taste. Not sure. Any other suggestions?

Haruhi Suzumiya: Episode 2
Kyon is a student who used to believe in Santa Claus, aliens, gods, demons, ESPers, and all the other good stuff under this sun. Unfortunately, graduating from middle school made him realize that none of these really exist. His world turned more mature, but it also turned rather gray and boring. Right now he is on his way to to class on his first day in highschool.

Haruhi Suzumiya: Episode 1
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (HaruSuzu) starts out with the worst opening imaginable. It tries to be so bad it's good, and mostly succeeds. Turns out, this is not the opening to the series, but rather the soundtrack to an anime made by the main actors of HaruSuzu; the whole first episode of HaruSuzu is an anime within an anime. It also introduces several of the actors of the series who happen to be playing in this anime, with the sole exception of the series' namesake herself, Haruhi Suzumiya. Haruhi is the director and does not appear in her anime. I'm saying this upfront because I almost dismissed this series because of a wrong first impression.

New York Times on the Tokyo International Anime Fair
The NY Times has an article about the Tokyo International Anime Fair. You need to register to read it (I think) but it is free. Glad to see that anime is getting a (mostly) good rap in one of the nation's most respected newspaper's arts section!

Mai Otome, episode 26: Dream Wing ~ Arika’s Dream
Sergey didn't do it, and Nina still has her full otome powers. Using the Harmonium, she goes on a rampage through Windbloom city. Natsuki, Mai, and the others are trying to stop Nina by pushing her back, but Nina is stronger.

Nagi used Nina and the power of the Harmonium ruthlessly. Several cities of assumed enemies of Artai and its allies have been destroyed. In Ealis, the Albright base was devastated, but is being fixed single-handedly by Haruka. Still, prospects for a political solution are bleak.

Mai Otome, episode 23, in pictures
Natsuki and Nao are recklessly racing back to Ealis through the Sprites' forest. Not seeing where they are going, they go straight over a cliff. With one quick action, Nao brings out what looks like a lipstick but has a string attached to which first Nao and then Natsuki hold on so they can climb up the cliff and survive. I guess this puts a new spin to the notion of weapons of a woman. Natsuki and Nao find themselves in a barren land, wondering where they are.

Mai Otome, episode 22, in pictures
In Ealis, the ruler of Annan is apologizing to Natsuki for the behavior of Erstin Ho and her family. He remains ambiguous as to her motivation, though, suggesting that many feel like Erstin's family. Many people of Annan lost beloved ones in the preceeding wars and partly blame it on the hording of technology at Garderobe. Still, he promises to honor the treaty with Garderobe and support Natsuki.
